Platelet function testing

چکیده

Blood platelets contribute to normal haemostasis in two main ways. They adhere to subendothelial microfibrils and collagen in the blood vessel wall, after which they change shape, undergo a specific release reaction, and aggregate with each other to form a primary haemostatic plug. As a consequence of these events, particularly during release and aggregation, procoagulant activities are generated, chiefly involving the platelet membrane phospholipids (platelet factor 3) so that blood coagulation is initiated at, and is largely localised to, the areas ofplatelet aggregation. Quantitative or qualitative platelet disorders may result in a pronounced bleeding tendency, mainly due to failure of platelet plug formation, but also to a lesser extent to the suboptimal activation of blood coagulation. This Broadsheet sets out to describe the methods which can be used reliably to detect and classify such bleeding disorders.

اثر ویتامین E بر فعالیت پلاکتی درانسان

ABSTRACT A large number of drugs have been demonstrated to effect platelet function and production .Even when shown to alter platelet function following ingestion of these drugs ,information on the effect of hematological parameter and the clinical significance is unavailable for many drugs. There is a lot of evidence in favour of significant changes in the activity of platelet function by vit...

Perioperative changes in platelet count and function in patients undergoing cardiac surgery

Background: Patients undergoing cardiac surgery are at increased risk of bleeding due to multifactorial coagulopathies. In the present study, we aimed at investigating the changes in platelet count and function during and after surgery as well as determining the association of the platelet dysfunction with bleeding and transfusion requirements in these patients.    Methods: A total o...

Platelet function testing in clinical diagnostics.

Although the utility of platelet function testing is still under debate, the necessity to inhibit platelets in patients suffering from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease is undoubted and well proven. The wide variety of available platelet function tests often using different methodologies, the apparent lack of standardization, and finally the emerging evidence on the clinical value of p...

Does routine repeat testing of critical laboratory values improve their accuracy?

Background: Routine repeat testing of critical laboratory values is very common these days to increase their accuracy and to avoid reporting false or infeasible results. We figure that repeat testing of critical laboratory values has any benefits or not.   Methods : We examined 2233 repeated critical laboratory values in 13 different hematology and chemistry tests including: hemoglobin, white...

تاثیر فیلتراسیون پیش از ذخیره کردن بر فعال شدن پلاکت‌ها در فراورده‌های پلاکتی

Preparation conditions and platelet storage for transfusion may cause platelet activation, which contributes to decreased ability of stored platelet to function and survive in vivo after transfusion compared with that seen with freshly prepared platelets. Using flowcytometry, we investigated platelet membrane expression of CD62P, CD63 in platelet stored for up to 3 days under standard blood ba...
